Fackler Sweeps MIAC Swimming Awards, Carlson Named Coach of the Year

2/24/2025 2:00:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Gustavus first-year Geneva Fackler (Plymouth, Minn.) was named both the MIAC Swimmer and Rookie of the Year, Jon Carlson '88 was named the MIAC Coach of the Year, and nine Gusties earned All-MIAC honors alongside Fackler when the 2024-25 MIAC Women's Swimming and Diving Awards were announced on Monday, Feb. 24.

All-Conference honors are awarded to the top three finishers of each event at the MIAC Championship meet. A total of five Gusties earned nine individual awards, while all five Gustavus relays swam to All-MIAC honors. Honorable Mention distinction is presented to individual finishes from fourth to sixth, as well as the fourth place relay team.

Fackler was chosen as the Swimmer and Rookie of the Year after leading the Gusties to their first repeat title since the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons by scoring the most points of any female or first-year swimmer at the meet. The freestyler won every individual final she raced in, including a thrilling victory in the 1650 freestyle on Saturday, out-touching the top-seeded reigning champion and 2024 Swimmer of the Year Skye Schmit of Macalester by two seconds (17:41.81). She added wins in the 500 freestyle in 5:04.74 on Thursday and 200 freestyle in 1:53.85 on Friday.

Fackler also swam on four All-Conference relay teams for the Gusties, leading the 800 and 200 freestyle squads to first place finishes. The 400 freestyle and 400 medley relays took second and third, respectively.

Throughout the season, Fackler earned MIAC Athlete of the Week honors once and posted a number of top times in the conference. She collected a total of 25 first place finishes through the year. She's the second Gustie to earn the Rookie of the Year award, joining Stella Anderson Moye (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), who collected the honor last season. She's the first Gustie Women's Swimmer of the Year since Jennifer Strom '15 won the award in 2015.

Carlson collects his fifth Coach of the Year award for the Gustie women following his and the program's 12th title in school history. He was previously selected as the Women's Coach of the Year in 2002, 2010, 2014, and 2018. He has been named the Men's Coach of the Year seven times as well. The 2024-25 title marked the first time in Gustavus history that both the men and women repeated as Swimming & Diving MIAC Team Champions.

Marit Isaacson (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) was awarded All-Conference distinction in three individual events, winning the 200 IM, taking second in the 400 IM, and placing third in the 100 freestyle. Hadley Wartner (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) earned All-MIAC via a third place finish in the 200 breaststroke, while Katelyn Siers (Fy., St. Cloud, Minn.) collected the first All-Conference award of her career in the 100 backstroke. Gabriella Stoudt (Jr., Maple Plain, Minn.) placed third off the 3-meter board to lead the Gustie divers as an All-MIAC selection.

Siers also took fourth in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle for a pair of Honorable Mention honors. Additional individual Honorable Mention awards went to Linnea Reinsmoen (Fy., Doha, Qatar) in the 100 butterfly (fifth), Anderson Moye in the 200 freestyle (fourth), Lindsay Sundby (Jr., Randolph, Minn.) in the 100 (fourth) and 200 breaststroke (sixth), and Eloise Cooper (Fy., Stevens Point, Wis.) in the 200 backstroke (sixth). Both Stoudt and Erin Hall (So., Bloomington, Minn.) were Honorable Mention recipients off the 1-meter board on Saturday, as well.

Each Gustie relay team earned All-Conference honors, led by first place finishes in the 800 and 200 freestyle swims. Isaacson, Fackler, Sommer Krause (Fy., Farmington, Minn.), and Anderson Moye collected the win in the 800 for All-MIAC honors, while Siers, Fackler, Anderson Moye, and Isaacson won the 200 freestyle relay.

Siers, Anderson Moye, Fackler, and Isaacson claimed second and All-MIAC in the 400 freestyle relay, while Cooper, Sundby, Isaacson, and Anderson Moye were second in the 200 medley relay. The team of Cooper, Sundby, Reinsmoen, and Fackler were third in the 400 medley relay to round out the All-Conference honors for the Gusties.

The only non-Gustie award was claimed by the Carleton duo of Nina Schwab and Hailey Westrup, who were selected as Co-Divers of the Year.

Stoudt will compete at the NCAA Diving Central Regional Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-March 1, while the Gustie swimmers will await the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship selections to be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
