Gustie Baseball Field
For over 100 years, Gustavus baseball played its home games on natural grass, but in the spring of 2018 the Gusties moved into the next generation of baseball facilities with their brand-new synthetic field turf, which was entirely donor-funded.
The renovation was completed in two phases beginning with the installation of SPRINTURF Ultrablade DFE 42 on the entire field in 2017. Phase two of the project, completed in 2020, included a covered grandstand, press box, new scoreboard, dugouts, bullpens, and an elevated berm down the first base line for spectator viewing.
Gustie Baseball Field renovation facts:
- Surface: SPINTURF Ultrablade DFE 42 on entire field (including home plate and pitcher’s mound)
- Multi-use surface: soccer practice, club sports, and intramurals use it as well
- Open to community: the field will be available to rent for local baseball organizations
- Dimensions: left foul pole – 315, left-center – 365, center – 390, right-center – 365, right foul pole – 320
- Elevated spectator areas directly behind home plate and down the right field line
- 350-seat covered grandstand
- 200 square-foot press box at top of grandstand; 70 square-foot auxilary press box in third base dugout
* The baseball field has been in its current location since 2007 after construction of the football field replaced the former location of Myrum Baseball Field. Games were played on natural grass and dirt through the 2017 season.
