Luke Weyandt is in his 12th season as a coach with the Gustavus men's and women's swimming & diving teams and his third with the Gustavus women's tennis team.Â
Last season, Weyandt helped the swimming & diving teams to a MIAC championship sweep, winning both conference titles for the first time since 2008.
Meanwhile, the women's tennis team went 16-11, taking second in the conference with a MIAC record of 9-1. The team advanced to the MIAC playoff championship, where they fell to Carleton 1-5 in the title match.Â
As an assistant coach, Weyandt's primary responsibilities include running strength and dry-land and serving as the recruiting coordinator for all three programs. He has also served as an instructor in the Health & Exercise Science Department, and helped with athletic events management on campus. Weyandt also coaches with the Mankato Mantas Swim Club with fellow swimming & diving assistant Alex Lindstrom.Â
Prior to his time at Gustavus, Weyandt held a number of different coaching jobs. Following his graduation from Gustavus in 2007, he served as a head and assistant coach for different MSHSL Swim & Dive Programs. He has been the head high school swim coach for Shakopee (head), East Ridge (head), Saint Peter (assistant), and Chisago (head) as well as the assistant track & field coach (throws) for Roseville and Eden Prairie high schools.Â
Weyandt briefly served as the head swimming & diving coach at Hamline University from 2019-21 before returning to Jon Carlson's program in the spring of 2021. While the head coach of the Pipers, Weyandt helped the women's team to a eighth place finish at the MIAC championship meet in 2020, while the men took sixth. Both teams picked up a number of dual meet victories with Weyandt at the helm.Â
Weyandt enjoys helping out with the track & field program at Gustavus and officiating at home track meets. As a track athlete for the Gusties, Weyandt was a thrower, competing in javelin, discus, and shot put. He was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection in the discus and javelin at the MIAC Outdoor Championship in his senior year
Luke has a his bachelor's degree from Gustavus ('07) and a master's in sports management from Concordia University-St. Paul in 2016. Weyandt resides in Saint Peter.Â
