Overall Philosophy
The goal of Gustavus Intramurals is to provide the students of Gustavus with a recreational program that offers a variety of alternatives to "free play" and varsity athletics in terms of organization and competitiveness. The program seeks to provide traditional team and individual activities and recreation at a less competitive level. Intramural participation should provide a physical outlet that complements the academic life on campus. Intramurals promote good sportsmanship through a variety of team, individual and co-ed activities that enhance the potential for social growth.
Through intramurals we attempt to provide opportunities to participate in recreational activities for as many students as possible. It is a program run by students, for students. It depends completely on the cooperation of all parties involved. Team captains accept the responsibility for their team knowing and abiding by the rules of the game, being ready for scheduled activities on time and most importantly that the team participates in a way that exhibits good sportsmanship.
Intramural sports are offered Monday through Thursday evenings and weekends.

League Descriptions:
Competitive League: This league offers a competitive environment for participants. All games will be assigned/scheduled and scores/results will be entered into the Intramural Google Drive. At the end of the season, the two teams with the best record will play for the season championship. The captain of each team will agree with the opponent's captain on the game's score, and the captain from the WINNING team will report the score directly onto a Score Report.
We are looking for IM student-workers to provide scorekeepers and referees for all competitive league match ups. Email tonyadamczak@gustavus.edu if you’re interested in this work-study opportunity.
Semi-Competitive League: This league is a mix of Competitive and Social. Games will be scheduled but not taken too seriously and simply there for the exercise, fun and involvement. Scores will not be recorded, nor will there be scoreboards or officials unless those participating want to keep score.
The only outlier is Co-ed Softball where scores will be kept but no scoreboard and one ump will be present to make safe/out calls. Balls and strikes are called by the strike mat behind the plate.
Social League: This league offers a more social environment for participants. Games will not be scheduled and will instead have “open play times” each week. Any player who is registered can show up to play. This is an opportunity to learn/practice a new sport or enjoy a sport you already know how to play in a relaxed environment. Our social leagues are also a great way to participate in Intramural sports without needing a full team! Individuals or small groups are highly encouraged to sign up.
Facilities
All games will be played either in the Lund Forum (on the blue side), Gus Young Court, West Fields or the sand volleyball courts by Complex and Pittman. Equipment will be provided unless specified in the league description in the Intramural Google Drive.
Please bring your Gustavus ID to access the Lund Forum. Reminder, you MUST fill out a waiver to play in competitive and social leagues.
Interested in working for Intramurals?
Our goal is to expand our student-worker pool to provide referees for our competitive leagues as well as have scorekeepers and supervisors for all IM events.
Please email tonyadamczak@gustavus.edu if interested in being a student worker or referee.
