MADISON, Wis. – The Gustavus women's tennis team hosted the Midwest Invite on Friday and Saturday and took seventh place out of eight teams. The bracket featured three nationally ranked teams, including No. 1 Chicago, No. 19 WashU, and No. 32 Kenyon.
On Friday, the Gusties suffered an 8-1 loss to Kenyon in the opening round followed by a 7-2 loss to UW-Whitewater in the consolation semifinals. On Saturday, the Gusties rebounded with a 9-0 shutout over UW-Stevens Point, moving to 11-11 overall this season.
Molly Austin (Fy., Arden Hills) was the highlight of the weekend for the Gusties as she was the only singles player to go undefeated in her three matches. Austin also went 2-1 in doubles with
Allison Szalay (Fy., Urbandale, Iowa).
Gustavus next hosts St. Scholastica at 6 p.m. Friday.
