SAINT PETER, Minn. - The Gustavus men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to UW-Platteville in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday. The Gusties finish the season 16-2-3 overall.
The lone goal of the game came at the 7:13 mark of the first half as Alester Dawson scored following a corner kick. The Pioneer defense held strong throughout the first half, not allowing a shot by the Gusties.
Gustavus found more time on the attack in the second half, out-shooting the Pioneers 14-2 with five shots on goal. The Gusties had multiple chances in the final minutes with Platteville down a player due to a red card, but couldn't net the equalizer.
The Gusties out-shot the Pioneers 14-6 overall and 5-1 on goal.
UW-Platteville will face UW-Eau Claire in the round of 16.
