MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Gustavus swimming & diving teams kicked off the MIAC Championships Wednesday night at the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center, and came away with a trio of victories on day one. The Gusties competed in the 200 medley relays, 800 freestyle relays, and the men's 3-meter diving.
On the men's side, the Gusties swept both relays, winning the 200 medley in 1:30.24 and the 800 free relay in 6:45.08. In the 200 medley, the team of
Matt Strom,
Nyden Hill,
Peyton Richardson, and
Kieran Ripken set a new meet and school record with their performance, besting a 2014 swim from St. Olaf. Strom,
Braden Ripken,
Logan Cyr, and Richardson won the 800 freestyle relay for the Gusties, touching the wall in 6:45.08 for first.
Andrew Jensen led the Gustie divers with a fourth-place and NCAA B qualifying dive of 389.20 in the finals.Â
The Gustie women also took first in the 200 medley relay, as
Mikayla Witte,
Lindsay Sundby,
Marit Isaacson, and
Lucy Peterson finished in 1:45.62. The team of Isaacson, Peterson,
Chelsy Johnson, and
Stella Anderson Moye finished third in the 800 free relay, with a final time of 7:46.65 behind Macalester and St. Catherine.Â
The Gusties kick things off on day two tomorrow morning with events beginning at 10:30 a.m.
