GREENSBORO, N.C. — In an electric final day of competition, Matt Strom (Sr., Rochester) and Lucy Peterson (Sr., St. Paul) wrote the final chapter of their illustrious collegiate careers on day four of the NCAA Championships in North Carolina.
Strom capped off his swimming career with a 26th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:50.64.
"Nationals has been a really exciting opportunity and an absolute blast," Strom said when reflecting on his experience. "Thank you to all of the people watching from home, I appreciate the support!"
In her final event at this meet, Peterson placed 45th and finished with a time of 52.22 in the 100-yard freestyle. The senior improved on her seed by three spots.
"The last day of nationals had an incredible energy to it and I could not be more grateful that I got to swim one more time," said Peterson. "I gave my last race my all and was very happy with the result. The first thing I did after my race was go to hug all my teammates to celebrate a great week."
"We finished with some good swims on Saturday, which made the weekend complete," said Head Coach Jon Carlson. "I was very happy that Lucy and Matt were able to participate in senior night last night—two legends in our program history. My favorite thing was that they took full advantage of the weekend and had a ton of fun in addition to competing as hard as they could."
