SAINT PETER, Minn. — The No. 34 women's tennis team closed out its regular season Sunday afternoon, facing off against nationally-ranked No. 25 Bethel at the Swanson Tennis Center. After taking a 3-0 lead after doubles, the Gusties closed out the win, 6-3, claiming the second spot in the conference behind regular season champions Carleton.
The duo of
Molly Austin and
Kaya De Bruijn started the team off strong, winning 8-5 at No. 1 doubles to start the day.
Pavla Yakimova and
Alli Laux followed suit, winning 8-5 at No. 3, before
Bethany Smith and
Allison Szalay complete the doubles sweep with the third 8-5 victory of the day.Â
In the singles play,
Kaya De Bruijn started off hot, winning 6-3 and 6-1 at No. 3.
Alli Laux sealed the win with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4.
Ella De Young added closed the match out with a win at No. 6, coming from behind to win 5-7, 6-2, 10-4 in the third set breaker.
The Gusties will host a MIAC Playoff Semifinal Thursday at 3:30, hosting the highest remaining seed after Tuesday's quarterfinal.Â
