NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Gustavus women's tennis team saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon, falling to Carleton in the MIAC Championship, 5-1. The Gusties, who finished second overall in the MIAC, complete their 2024 season with a record of 16-11.
The Knights took a 2-1 lead after the doubles, as the duo of
Pavla Yakimova and
Alli Laux earned the only Gustie point of the day. The pair won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles, claiming their 14th victory as a pair and ending the season with seven consecutive wins in a row. Carleton claimed point number one at No. 1 doubles, as the team of Mary Frances Hose and Amelia Asfaw, ranked ninth in the region, defeated
Molly Austin and
Kaya De Bruijn 8-2.
Bethany Smith and
Allison Szalay dropped No. 2 doubles 8-3.
The Knights won at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles in straight sets to claim the championship. De Bruijn was up 6-2, 5-2 and Laux 2-6, 5-2 before Carleton sealed the victory.
Carleton, ranked 17th in the nation, will advance to the NCAA Tournament with the MIAC's automatic bid.
