NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Gustavus men's soccer team concluded its season-opening road trip to Illinois with a 1-1 tie at North Central on Sunday, moving to 1-0-1 to begin the year.
Neither team scored in the first half as the Cardinals held a 6-5 advantage in shots after the first 45 minutes. At the 55:57 mark,
Leo Runestad found
Simon Woods to open the scoring. But just over six minutes later, the Cardinals netted the equalizer, which held through regulation. Shots were even 7-7 in the second half.
The Gusties were whistled for 12 fouls in the second half and ended the game with seven more infractions than North Central at 17-10.
Egan Bedwell made his second start in goal and finished with four saves.
Outside of Woods' goal,

Zach Heitkemper gave the Gusties scoring changes with one shot on goal each.
Gustavus faces Dubuque on Saturday for its home opener, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
