MANKATO, Minn. - No. 10 Gustavus men's soccer extended its winning streak to three with a 2-0 victory at Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday evening. The Gusties, ranked No. 1 in Region IX, improve to 4-0-1 overall.
The first half was physical on both sides with seven fouls committed by each team. Gustavus had a couple scoring opportunities before
Rivaldo Pena was fouled in the box in the 41st minute. Pena's penalty kick was saved by the keeper, but the Vikings were called for another foul against
Jack Isroff, settling up back-to-back PK's. Isroff's shot was saved once again by the keeper, but Isroff collected the rebound and scored for his second goal of the season.
The Gusties increased their lead to 2-0 in the 76th minute as Pena connected with
Joe Flory up the right side for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Pena's helper was his first of the year.
Egan Bedwell earned his third clean sheet this year after making one save. The Gustie defense has gone three straight games allowing two or fewer shots on goal.
Gustavus returns home Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup against Loras.
