ALTOONA, Wis. – The Gustavus men's golf team took to the UW-Eau Claire Wrigglesworth Blugold Invite Sunday, opening round one in fourth place. The Gusties are just six shots out of first, with Nebraska Wesleyan leading the way.

Teddy Kaste (Sr., Apple Valley) sits atop of the Gustie leaderboard, currently tied for fourth, just two shots behind Bethel's WIll Karkoc in first. Kaste totaled a pair of birdies to shoot a two-over 73 in round one.

First-year Jimmy Abdo (Edina) got off to a hot start, totaling a team-high four birdies, including two in his first two rounds, to sit tied for 16th. Abdo and Kaste have helped the Gustie "A" team to a fourth place start in round one. Chris Gutuza (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa) carded a trio of birdies in round one for a six-over 77, tied with fellow teammate Wyatt Carlson (Sr., Wayzata) for 20th. Tommy Hiniker (5th, Edina) rounded out the Gustie first eam with an eight-over 79 in round one.

The Gustie "B" team was highlighted by the performances of Blake Forrest (So., Maple Grove) and Jack Reinardy (Sr., Andover). Forrest carded a pair of birdies to sit tied for 11th with a four-over 75, while Reinardy is tied for 20th with a 77 and a trio of birdies.

"It was a tough golf course today, and we knew that going in, but we still missed some shots in bad spots that led to big numbers," said Head Coach Scott Moe. "This course just doesn't give up too many birdies, and you need to accept that and take a lot of pars. We had a very good, solid round by Teddy [Kaste] today, he was patient and hit some great shots. We're looking for more consistency across the board tomorrow, and if we can execute, we will be in good shape."

The Gusties continue competition in the invite tomorrow, looking to close the gap with just three teams ahead in the leaderboard.
