ST. Paul, Minn. – The No. 24 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's soccer team battled the Bethel University Royals on the road Saturday afternoon in a conference contest. Four Gusties scored to power Gustavus to a 4-2 victory over the Royals.
Bethel scored the lone goal of the first half on a penalty kick, but
Joe Flory tied the game up at 1-1 in the 47
th minute with a goal assisted by
Sam Kaeding.
Kieran Mahan then gave the Gusties a 2-1 lead in the 57
th minute, scoring with Flory assisting.
Diego Paulin scored the game-winner in the 70
th minute to put the Gusties up 3-1.
Max Just assisted with the goal.
The Gusties went on to score once more as
Leo Runestad found the back of the net in the 85
th minute with
David Castillon assisting.
The Royals managed to score with just 17 second remaining in the game, but the outcome was already set in stone as Gustavus took the 4-2 MIAC victory over Bethel.
Vikram Couto had three saves for the Gusties in the win.
Up next for Gustavus is road game at UW-River Falls on Tuesday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m. The Gusties then return to Saint Peter for a conference home game against the Carleton College Knights on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m.
