WINONA, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's soccer team battled the Saint Mary's University Cardinals on the road Saturday afternoon in the final game of the regular season. The Gusties scored thrice in the opening half while holding the Cardinals scoreless in a 3-0 victory. With a 6-3-1 conference record, Gustavus secured the No. 4 seed in the MIAC Playoffs and will host a quarterfinal match on Monday.
In Saturday's season finale,
Joe Flory put the Gusties on the board in the 21
st minute with a goal assisted by
Ryder Tomlinson. Flory scored again just seven minutes later, with
Will Clark assisting, to double the lead for Gustavus with his team-leading 13
th goal of the season.
The Gusties struck again in the 33
rd minute as
Cal Avery scored a third goal for the Gusties.
Rivaldo Pena assisted with the goal.
Jackson Baker led the Gusties in goal, playing 45 minutes and notching four saves in the shutout.
Gustavus outshot Saint Mary's 18-5 with a 10-4 edge in shots on goal.
Up next for the Gusties is a MIAC Playoff Quarterfinal match at home in Saint Peter against the Bethel University Royals on Monday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m.
