Men’s Golf Leads Field After Day 1 of Bobby Krig Invite

4/18/2025 7:09:00 PM

LE SUEUR, Minn. – The Gustavus men's golf team hosted the first two rounds of its spring tournament, the annual Bobby Krig Invite, at Le Sueur Country Club (par 70), and is leading the field of 11 teams with four athletes in the top-10 after the first two rounds. The Gusties shot a 291-287-578 (+18) on Friday, four shots ahead of No. 19/22 UW-Eau Claire in second.

The field includes 15 competing teams from 11 different schools, eight of which are in the MIAC, including the host Gusties.

The duo of Jimmy Abdo (Fy., Edina, Minn.) and Chris Gutuza (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa) are leading the Gusties individually, each sitting in second after Friday's action with an identical 72-70-142 (+2). Abdo carded seven birdies and 22 pars through the first two rounds, while Gutuza posted a three-shot eagle and six birdies.

Pelayo Perez Crespo (Jr., Sotogrande, Spain) is next for the Gustie "A" team, posting a five-over 145 on day one. Perez Crespo, who led the Gusties at the Rhodes College Cochran Collegiate with a top-10 finish, is sitting in seventh after carding five birdies and 21 pars. Jack Reinardy (Sr., Andover, Minn.) and Teddy Kaste (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) are tied for 26th after posting a 150 on the day. Reinardy had four birdies in both rounds, while Kaste shot even or better on all but 10 of his 36 holes on Friday.

Tommy Hiniker (5th, Edina, Minn.) is in 18th to lead the Gustie "B" squad, posting six birdies and a three-shot eagle for a nine-over 149. He led the day off with a round-one 72. Cameron Longie (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) is in 44th with a 155, while Aradheea Gawade (Fy., Mumbai, India) is tied for 46th one stroke behind his teammate.

Both Wyatt Carlson (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) and Caleb McBee (Sr., Glendale, Ariz.) are sharing 48th with a day one 157.

For the Gustie individuals, Blake Forrest (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) is in ninth after the first day, carding a 146. Forrest shot a one-over 71 in round one with a trio of birdies and five-over par in round two. Cole Paulson (Jr., Sauk Rapids, Minn.) is in 41st with five birdies for a 77 in each round, while Tomas Rohrborn (Sr., Santiago, Chile) shot a 170.

"Ten hours is a long time to spend on a golf course, especially with the wind blowing. We put ourselves in a decent position after the morning round, considering we struggled on some of the scorable holes," said head coach Scott Moe '95. "In the afternoon round began, we got off to an okay start, but we really turned it on the last nine holes, making a bunch of birdies on those scorable holes. We have three guys from our top team and along with one of our individuals sitting in the top-10, which is great in a talented field.

"New Prague will give us a different look tomorrow as it is much more demanding off the tee. Some very good teams at the top of the leaderboard, should be an exciting 18 holes of golf. Thank you to Le Sueur Country Club for having the golf course in great shape and ready for tournament play."

The Gusties continue competition at New Prague Golf Club (par 71) tomorrow, April 19, with an 8 a.m. shotgun.
