NEW ORLEANS, La. – Multiple members of the Gustavus men's and women's track and field teams have been named recipients of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the 2024-25 academic year, the USTFCCCA announced on Monday, July 21. Both teams were also named as All-Academic Teams, honoring the best team GPAs in the country.
On the men's side, two Gusties were individually honored, first-year sprinter/jumper
Liam Frommelt (Woodbury, Minn./Undecided) and senior multi/high jumper
Cole Matetich (Bemidji, Minn./Nursing).
Frommelt made a splash in his first season of collegiate track, cracking the top 50 performance list for triple jump, with a mark of 14.21m, set at the Drake Alternative, where he won the event. The first–year is the only member from the conference to be named to the All-Academic Team for triple jump.
Matetich finished his collegiate career strongly, hitting the 2.00m mark (6'6.75" ft) to tie for 40th in the country for the high jump. This record was set at the Gary Wilson Invitational, where he finished fourth against Division I and Division II competition.
Overall, the men's team also garnered the award of All-Academic Team with a 3.359 GPA. The standard for the award is all teams who fall between a 3.1 and 4.0 team GPA. The team also won the award last year, but gained an individual on the individuals list, up to two from one last year.
On the women's side, six individuals were honored, senior
Kelley Brennan (Shakopee, Minn./Health and Physical Education), senior
Kate Carlson (Inver Grove Heights/Exercise Physiology), sophomore
Olivia Duncan (Savage, Minn./Exercise Physiology), senior
Megan Geraets (Mankato, Minn./Chemistry and Chemistry Teaching), senior
Lili Guy (Glendale Heights, Ill./Nursing), and first-year
Kayla Kajer (Lake Elmo, Minn./Undecided).
Brennan is being honored in two events, discus and hammer throw. In the discus, Brennan set her season-high at the Bethel Invitational with a mark of 43.35m (142' 3" ft), which finished first at the event among Division III competition and finished as the top score in the MIAC for the season. In the hammer throw, the Shakopee native also set her season-high at the Bethel Invitational with a mark of 51.01m (167' 4" ft) to win the event against Division III competition. Brennan was also an honoree last season.
Kate Carlson finished her illustrious collegiate career with honors in the 100-meter. Finishing 46th overall, Carlson ran a season-high of 11.96 at the MIAC Outdoor Championships, finishing third and gaining points towards the team score, helping the team to win the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Carlson has been a part of multiple MIAC and school records, and captained the team in her senior season.
Sophomore
Olivia Duncan is earning her first national honor, earning the award for discus. She finished with a season-best mark of 43.25, (141' 11" ft), set at Maverick Open #1, which was the best score among Division III competitors at the event.
The Mankato, Minnesota native
Megan Geraets is also a repeat award-winner, earning the award this year in three events, the 200-meter, the 400-meter, and long jump. In the 200-meter, Geraets finished 10th at the National Outdoor Championships, after collecting four first-place finishes after the outdoor season and running a season-best of 23.96. In the 400-meter, Geraets set the best time in the country with a 53.87, set at the MIAC Outdoor Championships, winning by 0.02 seconds. In the long jump, Geraets finished 20th with a mark of 5.82m (19' 1.25" ft), garnering five first-place finishes throughout the outdoor season. Geraets finishes her career with school and MIAC records in multiple events and one of the most decorated careers in school history.
Lili Guy earned the award this season in the triple jump, finishing 30th in the country. Guy set a season-best of 11.76m (38' 7" ft) at the St. Olaf Ole Open and finished second at the MIAC Outdoor Championships, along with finishing first at the Norse Invite, Drake Alternative, and the St. Olaf Ole Open.
First-year
Kayla Kajer started her collegiate career strong, with a mark of 1.60m (5' 3" ft) outdoors and first-place finishes at the Gustie Twilight and the MIAC Outdoor Championships.
The women's team finishes with one of the best GPAs in the country, checking in at a 3.749 mark, the 10th best in the country. Just like the men's side, the team GPA is calculated through all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility.
Head Coach
Aaron Lund coaches both teams and continues to bring excellence on and off the track, with both teams earning the team All-Academic award every year as head coach, in addition to the women's team winning the MIAC Championship this season and sending participants to the NCAA Division III National Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
