SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's soccer team hosted the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes on Sunday for their second game in the opening weekend of the season. The Gusties shut out the Lutes in a 2-0 victory.
After a scoreless opening half,
Joe Flory capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity to give Gustavus a 1-0 lead in the 58
th minute.
In the 63
rd minute,
Leo Runestad fired a shot at goal that the Lutes' keeper was able to deflect, but
Kieran Mahan crashed the net to fire the loose ball in for a goal to double the Gusties' lead.
Pacific Lutheran fired 10 shots in the game, but the Gustie defenders and goalie
Micah Lesch held the Lutes scoreless.
Up next for the Gusties is a road trip to De Pere, Wisconsin to take on Carthage College on Friday, September 5 at 2:30 p.m.
