EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's golf team is competing in the Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational this week. After the opening round on Sunday, the Gusties are tied for seventh place out of the field of 22 teams after shooting +19 as a team.
"After great play and a big tournament win last week, we talked about carrying the mindset and good play into this weekend," said assistant coach
Randall Stuckey. "That didn't happen the way we intended to. We need to come out hungry and bring energy like we did the second day last weekend and clean up all parts of our game. This team is too good for what we scored today. We're good chasers so it should be fun."
Jimmy Abdo led the main Gustavus team with a round of +3 to tie for 15
th overall. Blake Forest followed at +4, tying for 21
st overall.
Sam LaFrenz and
Wyatt Carlson both shot +6 as the Gusties finished the opening round with a team score of +19.
The Gusties are just six strokes behind Illinois Wesleyan, who leads the invite after day one with a team score of +13.
Up next for the Gusties is day two of the Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational on Monday, September 15 starting at 9:30 a.m.
