"We came out really hot out of the gates again today," said Gustavus head coach
Scott Moe. "Very pleased with where we were at after nine holes. We took great advantage of some birdie opportunities with smart play and well executed shots. We let a few slip away from us on the back nine, but we're still in a great position heading into the final day."
After shooting -1 in Saturday's opening round,
Wyatt Carlson again led the Gusties on Sunday by shooting for par. With one round remaining, Carlson stands in first place overall out of the conference field of 45 golfers and has a four-stroke lead over the runners-up.
Blake Forrest and
Jimmy Abdo both shot +1 on Sunday to help Gustavus move up in the team standings. The round moved Forrest up to ninth overall at +7 and Abdo up to 12
th at +9 heading into the final day of the tournament.
Chris Gutuza had the fourth score for the Gusties on Sunday, shooting +5 in the second round. Gutuza stands in sixth overall at +6 for the tournament with one round to go.
"Nice to see Wyatt continue to play some great golf," said Moe. "Three guys right now on the top 10 is very solid, but our goal from day one is to finish it off with our team playing the way we know we can. We are excited for that opportunity tomorrow."
Up next for the Gusties is the final round of the MIAC Men's Golf Championship on Monday, September 29. The first tee time for Gustavus is 10:18 a.m. and the final group starts on the course at 10:54 a.m.
