WINONA, Minn. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team battled the Saint Mary's University Cardinals on Sunday afternoon for their fourth conference match of the weekend. The Gusties swept the Cardinals 7-0 to cap off a weekend in which they won all 36 singles and doubles matches they played, improving to 17-5 overall and remaining undefeated in the MIAC at 5-0.
Molly Austin and
Lanie Davis won the first match of the day, sweeping #2 doubles 6-0.
Karina Elvestrom and
Kaya De Bruijn followed with a 6-0 sweep of #1 doubles.
Ella De Young and
Allison Szalay closed out doubles with a 6-0 sweep of the #3 match.
De Bruijn swept #2 singles to put Gustavus up 2-0. Austin followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of #3 singles to give the Gusties a 3-0 lead. Elvestrom nearly swept #1 singles, winning the match 6-1, 6-0 to secure the match-deciding fourth team point for Gustavus.
Davis went on to win #5 singles 6-2, 6-0. De Young earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #5 singles. Szalay wrapped up the 7-0 match sweep for the Gusties with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of #6 singles.
Up next for Gustavus is the Midwest Invite, a two-day event starting Friday, April 3 and running through Saturday in Madison, Wisconsin.
