NEW ORLEANS, La. - Six Gusties have been named USTFCCCA All-Region, the organization announced on Wednesday. Four women made the list, joined by two men and only one of the honorees was in the back half of their college career this season.
The top-8 individuals in each event from each region on the year-end Athletic.net Descending Order Lists earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-8 relay teams.
The one senior on the list was
Molly Liston (Richfield, Minn.), who qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, starting tomorrow in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Liston was named All-Region in the 10,000-meter, ranked fifth with a time of 35:36.38, a school record which was set at the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge.
There were three sophomores who achieved All-Region honors,
Kyler Flunker (Mankato, Minn.),
Kayla Kajer (Lake Elmo, Minn.) and
Bella Sutch (Blaine, Minn.). Both Flunker and Kajer earned the award in the high jump, finishing fourth and fifth in the region, respectively. Flunker tied the school record this season at the Gary Wilson Invitational, jumping over 2.05 meters which converts to just under six feet, nine inches. As for Kajer, she crossed 1.65 meters at the Ole Open and had the second highest mark in the MIAC across all competitions. Sutch's award was in the shot put, where she had the seventh best mark in the North region. Sutch was outside the cut line for the award until the MIAC Championships, where she threw a 13.52 meter heave, winning the MIAC title.
Logan Day (Wayzata, Minn.) and
Ava Loftness (Prior Lake, Minn.) are the two who can say they know nothing else besides being named All-Region, earning the awards in their first collegiate outdoor seasons. Day earned the distinction in the javelin with the third best mark in the region with a 56.40 meter throw at the Ole Open. The throw won the event and was the second best this season in the MIAC overall, in addition to MIAC All-Conference honors. Loftness was strong all season in the triple jump, earning her way to the Outdoor Championships this weekend along with Liston and senior
Connor McCormick (Stillwater, Minn.). Loftness had her best jump at the Stomper Open, leaping 11.87 meters to get third in a highly saturated Division II field.
As mentioned, Liston, Loftness, and McCormick earned the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, starting tomorrow. Liston will compete in the the 10,000-meter at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow night, Loftness in the triple jump on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., and McCormick in the decathlon on Thursday and Friday, starting at 10:00 a.m. each day.
