CSC Awards History

Every year, College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) announces its national awards and recognition for sports information directors and athletics communicators of every level. Gustavus Sports Information has gathered 31 national honors as of June 14, 2025. College Sports Communicators was founded in 1957 and is a 4,400+ member national association for strategic, creative and digital communicators across intercollegiate athletics in the United States and Canada. CSC Logo

College Sports Communicators has two primary missions as it seeks to have its profession, organization and membership take its rightful leadership role within the decision-making levels of the intercollegiate athletics community:
  1. Assist communications and public relations professionals at all collegiate levels with professional development and continuing education, helping its members deal in a strategic and effective manner with the various issues, challenges and opportunities that exist within the fast-paced and ever-changing collegiate communications environment.
  2. Play a significant leadership and resource role within the overall collegiate athletics enterprise, thus helping other management groups and their respective memberships deal with the set of communications-based issues that is the most complex and challenging in history.

Creative and Digital Design Contest

College Sports Communicators sponsors a variety of media guide/publication and digital design contests and an annual writing contest for its members, with every current member at every level having the opportunity to receive recognition for his/her work. It's no small honor to earn an award since the judging is done by news media/communications professionals who use those publications in their work.

Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest

In athletic media relations, communicators are called upon to use their writing skills each and every day to create stories that captivate and engage our audiences. The Stabley Writing Contest recognizes the top writing and storytelling content in seven different categories (plus a category for undergraduate student writing entries) from current CSC members.

30 Under 30

The CSC "30 Under 30" award is presented to emerging athletics communications professionals at all levels of college sports in strategic, creative, and digital spaces. Candidates are considered for selection based on achievement in areas such as professional success, impact on their athletic department, and service to CSC. Honorees must be 29 years old or younger at the end of the calendar year, and hold a current CSC membership.

National Champions Awards Program

Since 2016, College Sports Communicators has honored athletics communications professionals of national championship teams through its National Champion Communicators program. The program recognizes athletics communicators and creatives whose teams win national championships across all collegiate divisions including NCAA Divisions I, II and III; NAIA; U Sports and CCAA (Canada); and Two-Year College (NJCAA, 3C2A, NWAC) national champions.

2009-10

Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award

Presented annually to a College Sports Communicators member for civic involvement, community service and accomplishments within and/or outside of the athletics communications profession. Voted on by the Special Awards Committee.
