Scott Heinen is in his second year as the lead assistant for the Gustavus men's soccer program in the 2024-25 academic year.

Heinen returned to Gustavus following a successful playing career for the Gusties from 2017-21. He also serves as the team's recruiting coordinator.

Last season, Heinen helped the Gusties to an 11-4-7 overall record, advancing to the NCAA tournament on an at-large bid. The team finished tied for third in the MIAC, and fell to St. Olaf in the MIAC Playoff Championship on penalty kicks. The Gusties defeated host Wartburg in the first round of the NCAA tournament before falling to Calvin in the second round.

Heinen also played a role in coaching the program's 17th All-American in Otis Anderson. The 2023 season marked the fifth consecutive year that the Gusties have boasted an All-American, excluding 2020, when no postseason honors were awarded.

Prior to joining the coaching staff, Heinen spent two years in Germany playing professional soccer. He played for Germania Eicherscheid in his first year removed from Gustavus and for SV Breinig in 2022 prior to returning to his alma mater and the Gustie coaching staff. In his first game for Germania Eicherscheid, Heinen tallied a trio of assists and played alongside fellow Gustie grad and now MIAC coach Matthew Gibbons.

While a student-athlete for the Gusties, Heinen was men's soccer All-Conference selection in 2018. In his sophomore season, the Aurora, Ill. native logged three goals and five assists for 11 points, in addition to one game-winning goal. The Gusties won three MIAC Championships and made two NCAA tournament appearances during Heinen's career. The midfielder played in 61 games for the Black & Gold, logging eight goals and 15 assists in his time with the Gusties. He received the team's "Above the Line" award, presented to a player who demonstrates a positive attitude and leadership in every aspect of the game.

Heinen continues to play with Minneapolis City USL2 and serves as the head coach of the Minneapolis City SC Futures U19.
