Scott Moe, a 1995 graduate of Gustavus, is entering his 29th year as the head coach of the men's golf team and 22nd with the women's golf team in the 2024-25 school year.
Moe has directed the men's team to seven MIAC titles and his squad has qualified for the NCAA Championships a total of 15 times during his tenure at the helm of the program. The Gusties have posted top ten finishes at the NCAA Championships in nine of Moe's years, including top-five finishes four times and a national championship in 2004. During his tenure, Moe has coached nine MIAC individual champions, 21 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, and 15 individuals who have earned All-America honors 25 times.
Moe directed the women's team to three consecutive MIAC Championships (2009, 2009, 2010), and eight NCAA tournaments, with finishes of second (three times), third (twice) and sixth (twice). Moe's team has consistently earned WGCA Academic All-America honors, and posted the second-best GPA in all of Division III in 2022-23. Eight women have earned 15 All-America honors under Moe's leadership.Â
Moe, a native of Elk River, Minnesota, has been named the MIAC Coach of the Year eight times (1997, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2022) and the Golf Coaches Association of America's District Five Coach of the Year five times (1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-99, 2001-02, 2003-04). Moe was named the GCAA National Coach of the Year in 2003-04, and was named the Women's National Golf Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 2007-08, and again in 2009-10. Moe is believed to be the first collegiate coach to earn National Coach of the Year honors as a men's and women's golf coach. During the spring of 2005, Moe also coached the U.S. Junior National Team to a World Cup title in Japan.
A standout golfer for the Gusties from 1991-95, Moe won three MIAC individual titles and played on four conference championship teams. He earned All-America honors in 1993 and 1995 and was named a GCAA All-American Scholar in 1995. In 2011, Scott was inducted into the Gustavus Athletics Hall of Fame.
Scott and his wife, Sarah '02 (Gustavus Athletics Hall of Fame '17), have two sons, Logan and Jack, and two daughters, Libby and Tessa.
