Maggie Willis has been a member of the Gustavus Sports Medicine team since October of 2020. Willis, a 2018 Gustavus graduate, earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training and was a member of the Gustavus gymnastics team for four years.

Willis works primarily with the men’s soccer, gymnastics and track & field athletes. Additionally, Willis has worked as an instructor for the Health and Exercise Science department, and currently serves a preceptor for the Athletic Training Program during the academic year. The San Bernardino, Calif. native has taught classes on physical fitness and conditioning, medical topics in athletic training, and served as an advisor for independent studies in health and physical education.

Prior to Gustavus, Willis worked as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Cal Poly Humboldt (Arcata, Calif.) from 2018-20, primarily treating athletes from the men's soccer and women's basketball teams. She was responsible for implementing rehabilitation programs for student-athletes, traveling with teams to competitions, and communicating and assisting the head athletic trainer and university physicians. During this time, Willis earned her Masters of Science in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports psychology in May of 2021.

Willis is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (GLATA), and the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association (MATA). She is a board certified athletic trainer and CPR/AED certified for professional rescuers and health care providers.

As an athlete for the Gusties, Willis competed primarily on vault and floor exercise. After medically retiring after her junior year, Willis served as a student-coach for the team and head coach Aryn DeGrood in her senior season.
