Amy Opsal was named the Gustavus Head Club Men's Volleyball Coach in the spring of 2024. She is entering her first full year at Gustavus in the 2024-25 academic year.

Opsal most recently comes from Monument Volleyball Club in Alexandria, Va., where she was the head coach of the boys U17 team that qualified for USA Volleyball club nationals in Las Vegas, N.V.

Prior to that, Opsal was at Northern Virginia Volleyball Association where she coached all ages and was the head coach from 2018-20.

Before transitioning into the youth sports world, she was the first assistant at the NCAA Division III University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. In her time with the Pointers as an assistant, Amy helped UWSP to a 42-26 record. In her two seasons in Stevens Point, she coached four all-conference Pointers, including 2018 Second Team All-American April Gehl.

Opsal began her coaching career for the University of Minnesota men's club volleyball team. She helped the Gophers to a top-20 national finish and coached eight all-conference players during her tenure, in addition to assisting the JV and varsity teams at Lakeville South High School.

During her undergrad, Amy played at Augsburg University (Minn.) from 2008-2011 as a defensive specialist. In her final season with the Auggies, she was a recipient of the 2011 MIAC Sportsmanship Award as a team captain.

She continues to participate in volleyball, including AVP beach and grass volleyball competitions and assists the women’s volleyball team at Bethany Lutheran College.

Opsal holds a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Management and a Master's degree in Community and Organizational Leadership. Opsal is a native of North Mankato, Minn. and currently works as an account supervisor for Kovly Studio in Mankato, a full service brand and marketing firm.
