Gustavus Adolphus College

Head Coach Brenden Huber is in his 10th season leading the cross country program on both the men’s and women’s side, taking over the program prior to the 2017-18 season. Huber spent 11 years as an assistant for both the cross country and track & field programs, and also serves as the lead assistant for the track & field teams. 

During the 2025-26 season, Huber coached three All-Region runners on the women’s side, including Molly Liston who qualified for the NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championships. At the MIAC Championships, Huber’s men’s team finished 5th out of 11 teams and the women finished 3rd out of 11 teams. In the NCAA North Region Championships, the men finished 17th out of 31 teams and the women finished 5th out of 30 teams. The fifth place finish in the region was the best result for Huber’s squad since taking over in 2017 as a collective and individually, as the team placed the highest since 2012 and had the most All-Region selections since 2012 as well. The men’s team had their best performance at the conference meet and regional meet since 2021 too, bettering each finish by one position compared to the two prior years. Liston’s success carried into the track & field season as well, where Huber helped the senior set school records in the indoor 3,000-meter, indoor 5,000-meter, outdoor 5,000-meter, and outdoor 10,000-meter. Liston advanced to the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships as well, where she placed 15th in the 10,000-meter and was named a Second Team All-American. 

Huber has coached a number of athletes to national competition, including Tierney Winter, a 2019 All-American and 2020 Gustavus graduate, who took 18th at the national meet. Winter was a six-time MIAC champion on the track, a 2019 All-Conference and All-Region selection in cross country, and was named the 2019-20 Gustavus Athletics Female Athlete of the Year. 

The Huron, S.D. native has specialized in coaching distance and mid-distance since graduating from the University of South Dakota in 2005. Huber was a cross country and distance runner for the Coyotes, helping the cross country team to an 11th place finish at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.

While a student-athlete at USD, Huber served as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), was awarded the Coyote Character Award by the athletic department, and was selected as an Academic All-America honoree in 2005.
