Erin Sawtell is in her fourth season as a member of the Gustavus gymnastics coaching staff alongside head coach Aryn DeGrood in the 2024-25 academic year.

Since joining the coaching staff in 2021, Sawtell has helped the Gusties to a number of record-breaking seasons. Sawtell serves as the primary beam coach and assists with all other events. While coaching the Gustie athletes on the beam, the team has broken the program record twice and set an individual beam record as well.

In the 2023-24 season, Sawtell helped the Gustie gymnasts break five records and set 18 individual career high scores. The Gusties broke the program team record score twice (UW-Oshkosh - 188.550, Winona State - 188.875), set a new team vault (47.5) and beam (48.05) record, and a new individual beam record (Maddox Lee - 9.775). Additionally, both Maddox Lee and Marley Michaud earned All-Conference honors, while all graduating seniors earned NCGA Academic All-America status, marking the ninth season in a row the graduating class has completed this feat. Lee and Kendra Smaby also represented the Gusties at the NCGA national meet.

In the 2022-23 season, Sawtell was honored as the North Central Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, presented by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA). Sawtell helped the 2022-23 team set a record for most wins in a season with five, broke the program team score against UW-Stout (187.775), and set a new team-high score on the beam at the WIAC Championships (47.675). In addition to the record performance against UW-Stout, the Gusties added four more team scores that placed in the top 10 in program history.

A 2005 graduate of the University of Minnesota, Sawtell has served as a coach for Roseville Gymnastics since 2004.

Sawtell lives in Mankato with her partner Brian and their four kids, Carter, Quinn, Luca, and Stella, and as well as their two dogs, Ollie and Gus.
