Rae Smit joined the Gustavus Sports Medicine team in 2026. She earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and later completed her master’s degree in athletic training at the Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Smit provides athletic training coverage for the football and track & field teams, supporting student athletes through injury evaluation, rehabilitation planning, and daily clinical care. During the academic year, she also serves as a preceptor for master’s athletic training students, offering mentorship and guidance as they develop their clinical skills.
A Saint Peter native, Smit grew up around the Gustavus campus and is grateful for the opportunity to serve a community that has always felt like home.
Smit is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (GLATA), and the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association (MATA). She is a board-certified athletic trainer and maintains CPR/AED certification for professional rescuers.
