Troy Banse enters his 17th season as the Head Athletic Trainer at Gustavus Adolphus College in the 2024-25 academic year. Banse also serves as an NCAA Athletics Healthcare Administrator and a Strength and Conditioning Coach and HES Instructor for the College.
Banse began his career at the University of Dubuque as the Head Athletic Trainer from 2001 to 2003 before working as an Athletic Trainer at OFC Mankato. Banse joined the Gustavus staff in 2004 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and HES Instructor.
In the 2022-23 academic year, Banse was presented with the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association (MATA) Outstanding Athletic Trainer Recognition Award, given to athletic trainers whose contributions to the profession have been noticeably significant throughout the year. Banse received the award for his work with injured women’s hockey player Heather Olinger, who suffered a career-ending spinal injury during the team’s game against Saint Benedict in January of 2023. Banse received this award just after traveling with the women's hockey team and getting a chance to hoist his first national championship trophy after 19 years at Gustavus.
Banse is a 2000 graduate of the University of Dubuque where he received his B.S. in Physical Education. Banse completed his M.A. in Physical Education and Sports Administration from Loras College in 2002.
