Women’s Hockey Team Defeats Hamline 8-0

The Gustavus women's hockey team defeated Hamline University 8-0 at Don Roberts Rink in St. Peter, Minn. on Friday night. The Gusties scored five third period goals to pull away from the Pipers. Annie Katz led Gustavus with two goals and two assists. The Gusties improve to 6-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the MIAC, while the Pipers fall to 0-8-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the MIAC.

Despite outshooting Hamline 20-1 in the first period, the Gusties led only 1-0. Andrea Peterson scored the Gustie goal at the 14:06 mark. Piper goalie Rachael Young looked strong in the nets as she turned away 19 shots.

The Gusties extended the lead to 3-0 after two periods on goals by Ingrid Neve (power play, 3:51) and Peterson's second goal (even strength, 8:53). Gustavus outshot Hamline 28-4 in the period.

Gustavus' depth started to take over in the third period as the Gusties scored five goals, while outshooting Hamline 19-1. Scoring for the Gusties were Annie Katz (twice, 1:12 and 8:48), Laura Stypulkowski (5:26), Josefin Pettersson (6:10) and Katie Deschneau (13:30).

Gustavus outshot Hamline 67-6 in the contest. Kara Meyer and Kitty Hurley shared the shutout for the Gusties. Rachael Young played 45:26 for the Pipers turning away 49 shots and allwoing five goals. Alysha Huberty played 14:34 and recorded 10 saves and three goals.

The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at 2:05 at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum in St. Paul.
