Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Tim Kennedy

Women’s Soccer Defeats Augsburg 1-0

The Gustavus women's soccer team won its third consecutive conference match on Wednesday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Augsburg. Becca Hagen (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) scored the lone goal of the game and Christy Tupy (So., Eagan, Minn.) was credited with the assist. The Gusties improve to 7-8-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the MIAC while the Auggies fall to 9-5-2 on the season and 6-3-1 in the conference.

Gustavus had multiple scoring opportunities in the first 45 minutes and was able to get the ball past the Augsburg keeper Maggie DeGroot in the 19th minute. Tupy passed the ball in front of the net to Hagen who kicked a hard shot that found the back of the net to give the Gusties a 1-0 lead, which was all they would need. Gustavus held a 7-4 advantage in shots during the first half.

The Auggies turned things around in the second half, controlling the pace of play. Augsburg held an 8-5 advantage in shots, however they could not find a way to get the ball past Gustavus keeper Ashley Ohlson (So., Anchorage, AK), who recorded her third shutout of the season and improved her record to 5-4-1.

Jenna Iaizzo (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) led the Gusties in shots with three while three other Gusties (Liz Peterson (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.), Tupy, and Hagen) had two shots each.

Gustavus will close out its season against Bethel at 1pm Saturday in Arden Hills, Minn.
