The Gustavus women's soccer team fell to St. Thomas by the score of 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon in St. Paul.  First year attacker Amanda Cartony scored late in the match to cut the lead to 2-1, yet St. Thomas's Lexie Fisher iced the game with her second goal of the match in the 88th minute, giving the Tommies their sixth MIAC victory of the season.  With the loss, Gustavus falls to 5-10 overall and 1-7 in the MIAC, while St. Thomas improves to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in the MIAC with the victory.

After a scoreless opening half, St. Thomas hit the back of the net in the 65th and 69th minutes to take a 2-0 lead.  Stephanie McCartan got the Tommies on the board first with a goal off a Katy Scherer assist.  Maren Flom-Staab and Katy Scherer combined to hit Lexie Fisher less than five minutes later for a goal, putting the Tommies up 2-0.

Amanda Cartony got the Gusties back in the match in the 82nd minute, scoring off an assist from Nicole Kwapick.  The goal was Cartony's seventh of the season, while Kwapick registered her third assist of the season on the play.  Cartony led the team with three shots in the match.

Lexie Fisher notched her second goal of the match six minutes later, putting an end to any Gustavus comeback hopes.  The Tommies outshot the Gusties 17-to-7 in the match, as St. Thomas blistered goalkeeper Chelsea Bayer with 12 shots in the first half.  The Tommies also held the corner kick advantage 9-to-4 in the match.

St. Thomas goalkeeper Allie Byron was credited with the win in nets, while Chelsea Bayer suffered the loss, making seven saves in the match.

The Gustavus women's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday Oct. 23, when the Gusties will travel to Arden Hills, Minn. to take on Bethel at 11:00 a.m.
