After being shutout in the opening match of the 2010 season on Wednesday afternoon, the Gustavus women's soccer team turned the tables with a 6-0 win over Northland College at the Emblem Advantage Cup on Saturday afternoon in Duluth, Minn.  Gustavus senior forward Ashley Anderson led the Gustie scoring attack with two goals in the game.  Senior goalkeeper Chelsea Bayer registered her first shutout of the season after making just one save in the game.

The Gusties got on the scoreboard at the 21:05 mark of the first half when first year defender Leah Brossolt struck the back of the net, scoring the first goal of her college career.  Anderson put the Gusties up 2-0 at the 32:22 mark with a penalty kick goal.  Sophomore forward Kristin Moen concluded the first half scoring with a goal five minutes later (39:00) on an assist coming from first year midfielder Amanda Cartony.

Anderson put Gustavus up 4-0 with her second goal of the game at the 47:46 point of the second half, as senior forward Karen Maus was credited with the assist on the play.  Senior defender Mackenzie Del Santro got into the scoring mix with a goal in the 55th minute, and senior midfielder Katie Eslinger tallied Gustavus's final goal in the 68th minute on an assist coming from first year defender Lizzy Kroker.

The Gustavus defense kept the Northland attackers at bay, as the LumberJills recorded just one shot in the game.  The Gusties tallied 15 shots and held the advantage in corner kicks 13-1.

"It was nice to see everyone contribute to the success of the team," said head coach Mike Stehlik after the game.

The Gustavus women's soccer team will conclude the Emblem Advantage Cup on Sunday with a match against St. Scholastica at 4:30 p.m.
