Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ethan Armstrong

Women’s Soccer Edged 1-0 By Carleton

The Gustavus women's soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 loss at the hands of Carleton on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn.  Sarah Hagerty knocked home the game-winner in the 60th minute to propel the Knights to their second MIAC victory of the season.  Gustavus falls to 2-8-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the MIAC with the loss, while Carleton improves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the MIAC.

"It was really fun watching us play today," said Head Coach Mike Stehlik.  "We were feisty, physical, created good chances and were more dynamic up front than in past games."

The Gusties generated eight shots to Carleton's 17 in the game.  Amanda Cartony led the team with two shots, while Megan McMillan had a goal overturned due to a goalkeeper interference call in the first half.

Sarah Hagerty's game-winning goal was her first goal of the season.  She was assisted by Niki Tomita on the play.

Gustavus had six corner kick opportunities and five shots on goal, yet couldn't get the ball past Knight Beth Ashinsky. Gustavus keeper Jessica Richert finished the game with 11 saves, which matches her highest total of the season.

The Gustavus women's soccer team will be back on the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 4 when it takes on Crown College at 4:00 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
