10/14/2023 9:25:00 PM

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Gustavus cross country program competed at the Jim Drews and Tori Neubauer Invitational on Saturday, hosted by UW-La Crosse. The Gustie men finished 11th out of 27 teams while the women took 10th of 20.

Three Gustie women finished in the top 50 out of more than 300 runners. Sydney Hagen led the way in 20th with a time of 23:44.2, Molly Liston took 34th in 24:10.0, and Kailyn Walukas finished 50th in 24:33.9. Veronica Wahman and Laura Sunnarborg rounded out the team scoring in 60th with a time of 24:49.2 and 76th at 25:11.9, respectively.

The Gustie men were led by Nick Brauer, who finished 27th in 26:17.1. Logan McCullough took 34th in 26:27.7, Jake Wielgos finished 68th in 27:19.1, Carson Roehl placed 76th in 27:27.2, and Evan Pouliot wrapped up the team finished in 83rd at 27:32.8.

"It was an outstanding day by both our men and women," Head Coach Brenden Huber said. "We challenged both teams to elevate and get ready for the championship season and I think both teams executed well. We saw many personal bests on a day that was not a PR course. We had a lot of rain and mud, and they just went out and fought through it. They got great position early on, fought through the tough part. I'm really happy with how hard we competed and we are peaking at the right time for championship season. Top to bottom, every one left it out there today and that was a lot of fun to watch."

Gustavus now prepared for the MIAC Championships, which take pace Oct. 28 in Northfield, Minn.
