SAINT PETER, Minn. - Gustavus women's soccer celebrated its seniors on Saturday and who other than senior
Alexis Lin to score the game's only goal in a 1-0 victory over Bethel. The Gusties improve to 8-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the MIAC, and are now two points out of the sixth and final MIAC playoff spot with one conference game to go.
Lin's goal came at the 39:29 mark on a pass from
Cambelle Waldspurger. Lin picked up her second goal of the season while Waldspurger now has a team-high five assists.
Gustavus edged the Royals 6-5 in the first half with both teams registering seven shots in the second half. Bethel outshot the Gusties on goal 9-8 as
Katelyn Olson made all nine saves for her fourth clean sheet of the season.
"What an awesome day to celebrate our seniors," Head Coach
Laura Burnett-Kurie said. "All four of our seniors have contributed so much to this program, both on and off the field, over the last four and five years here. They are such an influential group with their relationship building, positivity and contagious energy. We cannot thank them enough and look forward to continuing to celebrate the impact they have made on all of us. Overall it was a great win and a great day. Our team rebounded well from Wednesday's result and we put together a solid 90 minutes. The combination play we had all over the field, the movement of our attackers and the solidity our back line and defensive mids were all consistent and impactful. Katelyn came up big in net as well. And as always, the energy of our bench was out of this world."
Gustavus hosts UW-La Crosse on Tuesday for its final non-conference game of the season.
