LEXINGTON, Ky. - Lauren Klaith and
Kasie Tweet were honored as American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-Americans on Tuesday. The Gustavus volleyball program garners multiple All-Americans in the same season for the first time since 1986 while boasting at least one All-American for the third consecutive season.
Tweet caps her senior season with her first All-America award after earning First Team All-Region, MIAC Offensive Player of the Year, MIAC All-Conference, MIAC Playoff All-Tournament Team, and AVCA National Player of the Week on Oct. 30. Tweet ranks ninth in NCAA Division III in assists pet set (10.29) and fifth in total assists (1,214). With Tweet running the offense, Gustavus is ranked first in nine of 13 statistical categories in MIAC play and dropped just one set this regular season in all of conference play (33-1). Gustavus is also ranked No. 13 in digs per set and No. 24 for kills per set in Division III. In the MIAC, Tweet ranks No. 1 in overall and MIAC assists per set, No. 20 in overall digs per set and No. 21 in overall aces per set. This season Tweet was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Augsburg and UW-Whitewater tournaments and received MIAC Player of the Week honors twice. Tweet surpassed 3,000 career assists and ranks fifth in career assists and 13th in all-time digs at Gustavus. Tweet is the leader of the team and plays the most significant role in the team's third straight MIAC championship and NCAA tournament round of 32 finish.
Klaith also earns her first All-America honor in her senior season after capturing All-Region, MIAC All-Conference, and MIAC Playoff All-Tournament Team. With Klaith's contribution, Gustavus ranked first in nine of 13 statistical categories in MIAC conference play and dropped just one set this season in all of MIAC conference play. Gustavus is also ranked No. 13 in digs per set and No. 24 for kills per set in Division III. In the MIAC, Klaith ranks No. 1 in hitting percentage (.384), No. 2 in kills per set, and No. 4 in points per set as an outside hitter. This season Klaith had double-digit kills in 25 matches and 11 matches where she hit over .350 (seven of those matches she hit over .400). This season Klaith received MIAC Player of the Week honors twice and was named to the All-Tournament Team at Loras. Klaith played in all 118 sets this season and finished with 394 kills, which ranks 10th in a single season in program history. Her 707 career kills rank 30th in program history.
