SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men's & women's swimming & diving teams continued their season with the second meet of the year, hosting UW-Stevens Point and MSU-Mankato. The Pointer men defeated the Gusties 189-130, while the Gustie women finished second, falling to the Mavericks 240-78, but defeating UW-Stevens Point 185-133.
Matt Strom led the way for the men, winning the 200 free in 1:46.56 and the 500 free in 4:55.31. Strom was also a part of the winning Gustie 400 free relay team, finishing first in 3:12.52 with teammates
Logan Cyr,
Braden Ripken, and
Aiden Shermak.
Peyton Richardson also picked up two first place finishes for the Gusties, winning the 200 butterfly in 1:58.97 and the 400 IM in 4:18.45.
Kieran Ripken touched the wall first for Gustavus in the 100 back, posting a time of 59.40.
Ryan Lester led the Gustie men's divers, finishing third in both the 1-meter and 3-meter with scores of 211.4 and 200.00, respectively.
Lucy Peterson picked up wins for the Gustie women in the 50 free (24.39) and 100 free (53.80). Other highlight performances included a pair of second place finishes for first-year
Stella Anderson Moye. Anderson Moye finished the 1000 free in 11:25.07 and was a member of the 400 free relay team that finished in 3:39.98, along with teammates
Olivia Koeneman,
Chelsy Johnson, and Peterson.
Hadley Wartner also added a second place finish for the Gusties, touching the wall in 2:35.72 in the 200 breaststroke. On the boards,
Kaija Pratt finished with the top Gustie score on the 1-meter (228.90), while
Emmalyn Dickerson was the top Gustie finisher on the 3-meter (213.15).
"It was a great day of racing today, and overall just very exciting for our team," said Head Coach
Jon Carlson. "Overall, we took a big step forward today as a group. We started doing some of the small things better, which will definitely pay off in the long run as we move forward. Today's race certainly will help us get ready for the rest of the year, and I'm excited about where we're at for the rest of the season as we look toward St. Olaf next weekend."
Gustavus returns to meet action next Saturday, traveling to Northfield for a dual with St. Olaf.Â
