SAINT PETER, Minn. — It was a day of collegiate firsts at Don Roberts Ice Rink Saturday, as a goal from first-year
Kylie Scott and a 13-save shutout from
Maya Marston led the women's hockey team to a 1-0 shutout over Aurora. The Gusties, who shutout Aurora 5-0 the night before, improve to 9-1-0 with the non-conference sweep, while Aurora drops to 7-6-0 on the season.
Scott, who collected her first multi-point game with three assists in Friday's win, took a feed from
Brooke Power and
Emily Olson to set up for the shot from the point. Despite several defenders in front of the Aurora net, Scott's shot found a way past Aurora goaltender Marie Dedert, giving the Gusties a 1-0 lead 9:43 into the game.
Gustavus compiled a number of chances throughout the game, including a series of dangerous opportunities on three power plays, but one goal proved to be enough for the win.
Maya Marston, in her first ever collegiate start, saved all 13 shots she faced, stopping five in both the first and the third periods and three in the second for her first collegiate win and shutout.
Emily Olson led the Gusties with five shots on goal, while
Lindsay Berggren,
Kaitlyn Holland, and
Hannah Gray each totaled four on net.
The Gusties have one more game left in the 2023 calendar year, as they host UW-River Falls Wednesday at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
