SAINT PETER, Minn. - No. 15 Gustavus volleyball treated its fans to a 3-0 shutout over Bethany Lutheran in Tuesday night's home opener. The Gusties extended their win streak to five matches while improving to 8-1 overall.
After a back-and-forth start to the first set, the Gusties went on a 6-0 run to break a 9-9 tie and continued to add to their lead for a 25-13 decision. Gustavus rolled its momentum into the second by claiming the first eight points. Again, the Gusties continued to increase their lead throughout the frame and ended with their largest lead at 25-12.Â
The third set was closely contested with five ties and two lead changes with the final change coming on a
Sydney Timm (Lakeville, Minn.) kill to make the score 9-8. The Gusties found their rhythm for the rest of the set and went on to win 25-17.Â
Lauren Klaith (Rockford, Minn.)Â had a strong night on the attack with a team-high 12 kills and .345 hitting percentage.
Marlee Turn (Kennedy, Minn.) and
Sydney Olson (Willmar, Minn.) each had 10 kills with Turn adding 14 digs for the double-double.
Kasie Tweet (Adrian, Minn.) had the bulk of the setting duties with 28 assists while
Lizzie Horton (Jordan, Minn.) saw some time as well with seven assists.
Maren Sundberg (Eagan, Minn.) provided 14 digs on the back line.Â
Gustavus hit .342 on the attack and held the Vikings to a .075 rate.Â
