NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Gustavus women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss Tuesday at Carleton to open the conference season. The Gusties drop to 3-2 overall while the Knights improve to 4-1.
Carleton got the scoring going in the 29th minute and the score remained 1-0 at half with the Knights leading in shots 14-2. The home team added to its lead in the 57th minute and then went up 3-0 less than two minutes later off a corner kick.
Ellen Becken (Prior Lake, Minn.) ended the shutout with less than five minutes to go in the match with her first goal of the season off a corner kick that was deflected by the keeper.
Carleton outshot the Gusties 28-4 with 13 shots on goal, compared to two for the Gusties.
Claire Hemstock (North Mankato, Minn.) made seven saves and allowed three goals in 63 minutes while
Katelyn Olson (Cloquet, Minn.) finished out the final 27 minutes with three saves.
Gustavus next hosts Macalester on Saturday afternoon.
