ST. PAUL, Minn. — The No. 16 nationally-ranked Gustavus men's soccer team settled for its third tie of the season, finishing its third MIAC contest with a 3-3 draw against Hamline in St. Paul.
The Gusties opened the scoring midway through the first half, as
Raphael Cattelin (Edina, Minn.) found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Hamline's Jessie Juarez scored the equalizer on a penalty kick just two minutes later — his first of three goals for the day. Juarez added one more before the end of the half for a 2-1 Piper lead.
Juarez picked up right where he left off after the break, completing the hat trick with a goal 12 minutes into the second half. Hamline played with the two goal lead until
Alex Krumenauer (Otsego, Minn.) sparked the Gustie offense, cutting the Piper lead in half with his first of the season at minute 74. Less than three minutes later, first-year
Joe Flory (Whitchurch, England) netted the Gustie equalizer for the final 3-3 score.
Gustie goalkeeper
Wesley Sanders (Urbandale, Iowa) made three saves on six shots in 90 minutes of play. Five different players accounted for the Gusties' five shots on goal, as the three goal-scorers,
Otis Anderson (Minneapolis, Minn.), and
Sam Just (Lakeville, Minn.) each put one on frame. The Gusties outshot Hamline 17-9 overall.
Gustavus, now 3-1-3, will face Augsburg next weekend in Minneapolis.
