NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Gustavus men's and women's swimming & diving teams headed to Carleton for the first meet after the holiday break, and the two teams split the decision against the Knights. The Gustie men won 171-127, while the women fell 174-126.
The men won 10 of 16 events, highlighted by senior
Matt Strom, who played a role in four different Gustie wins. Strom individually won the 100 backstroke (52.68), 200 backstroke (1:59.26), and 500 free (4:56.36), and was a part of the winning 200 medley team that finished in 1:36.61.
Logan Cyr added a win in the 200 free, while
Nyden Hill took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.30. The 200 freestyle team of
Braden Ripken,
Jack Christoferson, Cyr, and
Kieran Ripken also touched the wall first in 1:27.34.
Kieran Ripken picked up two more wins in the 50 free (21.74) and 100 free (48.65).
Peyton Richardson rounded out the squad with a win in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 52.45.
The Gustie women won seven of 16 events in the dual meet with the Knights.
Stella Anderson Moye and
Lucy Peterson led the team with two individual wins. Anderson Moye finished first in the 200 free (2:03.12) and the 500 free (5.34.86). Peterson continued her dominance of the MIAC, finishing first in the 50 free in 25.16 and the 100 free in 54.92.
Teegan Jass finished first for the Gusties in the 1000 free in 11:35.70, while
Mariel Castillo took first in the 200 butterfl in 2:22.30.
Hadley Wartner wrapped up the meet with a first place finish in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:34.51. The Gustie women also took second in seven different events.
Both teams are back in action next weekend, heading to the UW-Stevens Point Invite.
