SAINT PETER, Minn. - No. 5 Gustavus men's soccer pressured Concordia all game Saturday and finally put home the game-winning goal late in the second for a 1-0 victory. The Gusties remain unbeaten on the season at 12-0-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the MIAC.
Playing in the Macalester end for most of the game, the Gusties posted 12 shots in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net as the score remained 0-0 at half. The Gusties continued to apply pressure throughout the second half and it paid off in the 77th minute.
Owen Johnson was upended in the box, attempting to make a run at the goal, and was fouled on the play setting up a penalty kick.
Joe Flory took the PK and converted for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Gustavus outshot Concordia 28-4 overall and 7-0 on goal as
Egan Bedwell did not face a shot in goal, earning his ninth shutout of the season.
The Gusties welcome defending national champion St. Olaf to Saint Peter on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. MIAC matchup.
