BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Izzy Quick (5th, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) was named the MIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday, Nov. 11.
Quick led the Gusties to a pair of season-opening victories over two WIAC opponents, limiting each to just 49 points in both games. Quick collected 11 rebounds in her first game of the season, the fifth game of her career with more than 10 off the glass. She added two more on Sunday, and picked up three steals over the weekend, as well as five assists. Quick scored 14 points between the two games, and drew six fouls between the two wins.
Quick, an All-MIAC selection last season, averaged 6.3 rebounds per game and 7.3 points per game in 28 games played. Over the weekend, the Gusties held opponents to cold shooting, especially on Sunday against Eau Claire, holding the host Blugolds to a mark of 26.9 percent in the second half.
The No. 11 Gusties head back to Wisconsin on Thursday, facing UW-Stout (2-0 overall), ranked No. 13 in D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25 poll.
