BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Lauren Klaith (5th, Rockford, Minn.) was named the MIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and second week in a row on Monday, Nov. 11.
Klaith led the Gustie offense to a 3-1 win over St. Catherine on Saturday, totaling 22 kills, just one shy of her season high, in four sets. Klaith hit .408 on the night, with just two errors on 49 attempts. She added a service ace and a pair of blocks, as well as four digs.
The team's 72 kills against the Wildcats were the most for the Gusties in any conference match this season, were one shy of the team's season-high, and rank fourth on the NCAA Division III leaderboard for kills in a four-set match. Klaith's performance helped the Gusties lock up their third consecutive undefeated MIAC season - the first team in recorded conference history to do so, as well as the No. 1 seed in the playoffs and the program's 10th MIAC Regular Season Championship.
Klaith and the Gusties ended the regular season with marks of 12.84 assists per set (1st MIAC/7th NCAA), 14.07 kills per set (1st MIAC/4th NCAA), and 1,407 team kills (1st MIAC/19th NCAA). Individually, Klaith led the MIAC with 400 kills this season, a mark that ranks 21st in the nation.
The Gusties locked up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MIAC Playoffs, set to begin with quarterfinals on Tuesday. The conference tournament will once again run through Saint Peter, with Gustavus receiving a bye through the first round. The Gusties will face the winner of Saint Benedict (12-11, 8-3 MIAC) and Augsburg (16-13, 7-4 MIAC) at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
