NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Gustavus cross country wrapped up its 2024 season Saturday at the NCAA North Region Championships with the women taking 11th place out of 31 teams and the men taking 18th.
Â
Molly Liston and
Sydney Hagen earned All-Region honors by finishing in the top 35 out of 222 runners. Liston crossed the 6k line in 22:39.3 for 20th place, while Hagen finished 32nd in 23:05.4.
Kailyn Walukas took 59th in 23:39.6,
Aubrey Mair placed 101st in 24:40.1, and
Mackenzie Murphy finished 124th in 25:04.6 to round out the Gusties' top five.
Â
"Today was a great day for a cross country race, it was ugly, tough, and rugged," said Head Coach
Brenden Huber. "Top to bottom the women competed well today. Molly put herself in a position to be at the front but maybe didn't have her A-plus game today. It was great to see Sydney get All-Region as well. Overall, we are happy with the effort because it certainly wasn't for a lack of trying. Fingers cross that Molly gets in the national meet."
Â
Tyler Smith led the way for the Gustie men, taking 90th out of 220 runners with a time of 26:27.0.
Will Janzen was right on his heels in 91st, crossing the line in 26:27.8.
Evan Pouliot took 114th in 27:01.0,
Carson Roehl took 128th in 27:28.4, and
Henry Landsem finished 148th in 27:54.6.
Â
"The men competed hard today," Huber said. "We held where we were at the conference meet with the exception of Tyler taking his shot. He went and stuck his nose up there with the top guys and it didn't pan out. The efforts were there and all the other guys competed well."
Â
The selection show for the NCAA Championships is Sunday afternoon to determine if Liston will earn an invitation.
