NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Gustavus cross country competed at the MIAC Championships on Saturday with the women taking fourth place out of 12, and the men finishing sixth out of 11 teams.

Molly Liston and Sydney Hagen both earned All-Conference honors. Liston led the way for the Gusties, taking fifth place out of 156 runners with a time of 22:40.9. Hagen took 11th place, clocking in at 22:58.1. Kailyn Walukas finished 26th in 23:47.1, Mackenzie Murphy placed 40th in 24:29.3, and Aubrey Mair rounded out the top five in 46th with a time of 24:42.8.

"Molly's been doing a really good job of running with that front pack and made a great adjustment today," said Head Coach Brenden Huber. "She basically ran the whole thing solo and stayed behind the lead pack, which was her first race she had to run by herself, but she didn't let anyone behind her touch her. And Sydney had a great finish to her career by placing that high in a conference that is stacked. It's a great statement on her growth."

Tyler Smith paced the Gustie men with an All-Conference performance, taking eighth place in 25:17.2. WIll Janzen earned All-Conference honorable mention recognition, finishing 25th in 26:05.1. Evan Pouliot took 47th in 26:47.0, while Carson Roehl and Henry Landsem finished 71st and 72nd, respectively, in 27:26.7 and 27:27.2.

"With Tyler we talked about being in the top 10 and he executed his race plan perfectly," Huber said. "He trusted himself and pounced at the right time. He proved he can run with the best in this conference. Will Janzen getting on the podium was a huge effort for him and a PR. It was great to see him step up and provide that boost to the rest of the team."

Gustavus runs at the Saint John's Fall Finael on Friday before competing at the NCAA North Region Championships on Nov. 16 in Northfield.

"Both teams have their eyes on passing the next MIAC squad," Huber said. "We took one heck of a shot today and was really happy with the effort."
